Sara Beth and Seth: 3 Months

We didn't have a doctor's appointment recently enough where they measured everything, but I took them in for a weight check on Friday (the day before they turned three months) just to see how they were doing. Here is the info I do have.

Measurements and Sizes:
Sara Beth:
Weight - 11 lb 5.6 oz
Length - 23 in

Seth:
Weight - 15 lb 10.3 oz (91st percentile)
Length - 24.75 in

Sara Beth is still wearing mostly newborn clothes with some 0-3 month clothes if they run smaller. There are so many times we try things on her thinking she will be big enough, and they just swallow her. She was wearing newborn diapers until September 1st when we ran out and switched her to size 1 diapers.

My little man has just taken off in growing this month. He could wear 0-3 month clothes for about a week, and then he mostly had to start wearing 3-6 months. In some things that we have prewashed, he can even wear size 9 months or 6-12 months. He is just all over the place in clothing depending on which brand it is and how much it has shrunk. We switched him from size 1 diapers to size 2 diapers on August 31st.

Sleeping and Eating:
Sleeping has been much better this month! Most nights we would put them to sleep between 8 and 9, and they would sleep until 2 or even 3 sometimes. They would eat and then go back to sleep until 6 or 7. Our pediatrician told me at their two month appointment that they medically do not need to eat after 3 months of age in the middle of the night. Call me harsh, but on the eve of their three month birthday, I quit feeding them when they woke up in the middle of the night. They have done SO great! Typically, one or the other wakes up around 2, and I usually go in there, change their diaper while still in their crib, reswaddle them, and kiss them goodnight again. They go back to sleep without a fuss most of the time. We do the same thing sometime between 4 and 5, and then they are happy and ready to wake up and eat around 7 or 8 each day. We are loving it!

Sara Beth went to a GI doctor this month for her reflux and projectile vomiting, and she started on a new medicine (Prevacid) to help. They also switched her to Nutramigen for supplemented formula, so she is finally starting to keep most of her food down. This has really helped her weight gain! She is typically eating 3 ounces of breastmilk/formula, plus 6 teaspoons of rice cereal in every bottle. She takes about 6 bottles each day.

Seth has seen an ENT and Speech Therapist who started him on Zantac to help his silent reflux, and he is doing much better as well. He is off the EnfaCare preemie formula and is now just on Enfamil's Infant formula. He drinks between 4-6 ounces of breastmilk/formula at each feeding and also takes about 6 bottles every day. We've had to start adding prune juice to his diet each day to help with his digestive issues. He will seriously drink anything and gulps it right down. I'm not sure it's helping though, so I think we are going to try pear juice next because I've heard it helps more.

Firsts this Month:
On August 15th, I took them to the pool for the first time with my friends, Gail and Shawna. They weren't crazy about the cool water, but they did so great the whole day! On August 18th, Seth and I took them to church for the first time, and they went to the church nursery! There were 3 wonderful ladies taking care of them and two other babies. They did great, and we are so thankful for a wonderful church family. Another exciting first is that they both started smiling intentionally this month. It was hard to pinpoint the exact day they started doing this occasionally, but we decided that SB first smiled on September 6th, and Seth first smiled on September 12th. Each day they are starting to do this more, and it is so fun!

Mommy's Notes:
It's hard to remember our lives without these sweet precious babies. Our days and nights are so incredibly different from before they were here, but I wouldn't change a thing. Both babies love their car  seats and being out of the house, so we try to do something almost every day. They (almost always) do great when we are out in public, which is SO nice! Both of my babies also love music, so we listen to our six favorite Lion King songs at least 10 times a day! :) They also love being read to which makes this teacher happy, happy, happy! Happy 3 months, precious ones!

  1. Just a few ounces of watered down apple juice FLIES through my children's systems. We've always used it as our go to. It only takes about 2 hours to work. It might take more...but it's so fast.
